HISTORIC PLAQUE PROJECT
| For Your Home! |
 |
For Your Business! |
The Elk Rapids Historical Society is accepting applications for the next casting of
historic plaques. These plaques are cast of 100 % high-quality aluminum with raised
letters and numbers, along with a burgundy background for mounting on homes, churches and
businesses.
All buildings built before 1935 are
eligible for a plaque. This is a project to help the Society to document the
historic buildings in the Elk Rapids area and for visitors and fellow residents to know
how old each building is. After a successful response last year, area historic home
owners now have identified and documented thirty homes. These records are kept on
file at the Elk Rapids Area Historical Museum for public use regarding historical research
of the local community.
The current focus is now on old
churches, commercial buildings and other historic residential homes in the area.
Applications are available at the Museum in the lower level of the Old
Township Hall (401 River St.). A downloadable application (a Microsoft Word
document) is available below. There is also a "help guide" to tracing the
history of your structure.

The cost for the plaques is $75
