VOLUNTEER HELP IS ALWAYS NEEDED AND WELCOMED! |
Did you know that your Elk Rapids Area Historical
Museum is entirely run by volunteers? It takes many hands to prepare the exhibits and to
sort, index, file and preserve the many treasures that have been donated (or are already
in our collections).
Greeters are always needed to welcome and assist visitors. More helpers would make it
possible to increase the days and hours we are open to the public.

FOLLOWING COMMITTEES: |
ARCHIVES:
This is a small group of dedicated people who research, catalog and
help visitors in the Archives. We work on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (1 4 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day) but we'd like more help
so we can expand our services and complete current projects. We will train you! Computer literacy is desirable but not necessary. |
GREETERS:
Greeters help us when the museum is open. They greet visitors and answer questions. There
is on-the-job training that introduces/informs greeters about the exhibits and
the history of Elk Rapids and any other pertinent information. It is a good way to learn
about the museum. If the current roster of Greeters were increased, we would like to
expand the hours the museum is open to the public. We would like to have enough volunteers
so that we could be open longer hours and more days of the week |
EXHIBITS:
This is a fun committee which helps to design and implement new exhibits and maintains the
current ones. This group works throughout the year putting away prior exhibits and
setting-up new ones. They assist the archivist with inventorying artifacts and collections
There is always plenty to do! |
MAINTENANCE:
This group works throughout the year. They assist the Exhibit crew - especially during
change-over. They do almost all of the continuing maintenance work including painting,
carpentry, and miscellaneous/emergency repairs etc. They have fun and always can use more
help. |
NEWSLETTER:
The newsletter is done on our computer using a desktop publisher. There is always a need
for editors, writers for special historical stories, and researchers. We also have a
website on the internet to be maintained and expanded with interesting local historical
information and stories. |
PROGRAMS:
Each month (May thru October) the Historical Society has a program. The people on this
committee help to plan the programs for the year. |
FUNDRAISING:
You help come up with ideas
and plan some fundraising projects for the museum. We are always in need of people and
ideas. Grant writing experience is a plus, but not necessary. |
